On August 11, 2016, the NADFC in cooperation with Rumkital dr. Ramelan, Surabaya, held A Workshop of Pharmacovigilance Program to Healthcare Professionals in Rumkital dr. Ramelan, located at Novotel-Surabaya Hotel. This workshop aims to increase the participation of healthcare professionals in monitoring and reporting drug side effects with the ultimate goal is the patients safety. The participants who attended the workshop were 32 people from Rumkital dr. Ramelan, Surabaya and 2 people from Provincial Office of the NADFC in Surabaya.
This workshop was officially opened by Marine Colonel (K) dr. Herjunianto, Sp. PD, M.MRS as the Vice Chief Medical Officer (Wakil Kepala Medik, Wakamed) of the Naval Hospital dr. Ramelan. In this workshop, the topic "Pharmacovigilance and Patient Safety" was delivered by dr. Jarir At Thobari, MD, MSc., PhD as an speaker from the Faculty of Medicine, Gadjah Mada University. The next topic was about the implementation of "Pharmacovigilance Program / Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring (MESO) in Indonesia" delivered by Siti Asfijah Abdoellah, S.Si., Apt., M.Med.Sc. as the Head of Subdirectorate of Surveillance and Risk Analysis of Therapeutic Product and Household Medical Supplies. The last material was delivered by Marine Lieutenant (K) Drs. Lestiono, Apt., SpFRS as the Subdepartment Head of Pharmaceutical Clinic Lt. Col. on "Profile and Monitoring of Drug Side Effects that have been done at the Naval Hospital dr. Ramelan."
The participants were very enthusiastic in taking part in this workshop, seen from the many questions that were presented in the discussion session. During the discussion, it was also conveyed, among others, the obstacles faced related to the reporting of drug side effects, for example, obstacles in determining the factors causing the occurrence of adverse events (AE) / ESO, constraints to know the existence of drug interactions that may affect the side effects of drugs, and the mechanism of reporting drug side effects from the Naval Hospital dr. Ramelan, Surabaya, to the NADFC as National Center of Pharmacovigilance. With this pharmacovigilance workshop, it was expected that healthcare professionals in the Naval Hospital dr. Ramelan, Surabaya, could improve the implementation of monitoring and reporting of drug side effects for the patient safety assurance, especially in the Naval Hospital dr. Ramelan, Surabaya. (rdh)
