The NADFC conducted a workshop of Pharmacovigilance Program for Healthcare Professionals of Central Association of Indonesian Pharmacists on May 10, 2016 at the Hotel Balairung, Jakarta.  This workshop aimed to increase pharmacists' knowledge of pharmacovigilance and increase the role of pharmacists in monitoring and reporting drug side effects with the ultimate goal of patient safety.  The workshop was attended by participants from healthcare professionals who are members of the Central Association of Indonesian Pharmacists and who also work in various hospitals in Jakarta.

 

The workshop was officially opened by Arustiyono, Apt., MPH as the Director of the Directorate of Distribution Control of Therapeutic Product and Household Medical Supplies.  Mr. Arustiyono gave a presentation about Pharmacovigilance Program in Indonesia.  There were three other presentations given in the workshop.  The first presentation , titled Pharmacovigilance and Patient Safety”, was given by dr. Jarir At Thobari, MD, MSc., PhD from the Faculty of Medicine of Gadjah Mada University.  The second presentation, titled “Pharmacist Monitoring of Drug Side Effects”, was given by L. Endang Budiarti, Apt. as a speaker from IAI and a clinical pharmacist from Bethesda Hospital in Yogyakarta.  The last presentation, titled “Pharmacovigilance in Indonesia: Current Situation”, was given by Siti Asfijah Abdoellah, SSi., Apt., MMedSc. as the Head of Subdirectorate of Surveillance and Risk Analysis of Therapeutic Product and Household Medical Supplies.  


The participants of the workshop enthusiastically asked questions to and had discussions with the speakers about how to detect and handle drug side effects.  The participants and speakers also discussed some issues about challenges in carrying out the monitoring process of drug side effects and the monitoring process of drug side effects practices done in hospitals.  The workshop was officially closed by the Head of Subdirectorate of Surveillance and Risk Analysis of Therapeutic Product and Household Medical Supplies.
